The Wall Street Journal to launch new real estate section

The Wall Street Journal said its new weekly section covering the global luxury real-estate market will debut Friday and be called Mansion.

The section, which will be led by editor Emily Gitter, will appear in the Journal every Friday in the U.S. Certain content will appear each week in the Journal’s Europe and Asia editions.

The new standalone section, first disclosed in July, is one of several investments the newspaper is considering at a time when its parent company, News Corp. (NWSA, NWS.AU), is preparing to spin off Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal as well as Dow Jones Newswires, along with other publishing assets from its entertainment businesses.

“We have created Mansion to be the home of both aspiration and real-estate realization,” said Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of Dow Jones and managing editor of The Wall Street Journal.

The new section’s stories will include property-focused coverage with industry statistics and a focus on high-end financing; luxury real-estate topics ranging from iconic buildings and renovations to investments associated with those projects; distinctive neighborhoods and properties around the world; and views from select residences.
